ABOUT US

Welcome!

We are John and Candis Wright -- and family.

Huckleberry Ridge is located in Cosmopolis, Washington near the coastal towns of Westport, Ocean Shores, Hoquiam, Abereen and Raymond.

We've been providing personal care services since May, 2004. It was just prior to this that a dear, long time friend of ours called one day to ask if she could "move in" with us.

For over three decades John has been in the habit of visiting retirees and the elderly as well as individuals simply living on their own -- just checking in on each one from time-to-time.

It is not uncommon to share breakfast, lunch or dinner, or a cup of hot chocolate, or a little shopping excursion together -- to enjoy friendship.

This circuit of relationships was to be the foundation for that life-changing phone call in 2004.

Our friend called and said that she was becoming concerned about her ability to live on her own -- which she had been doing since becoming a widow in 1965. She was now 89.

Needless to say, we were thrilled that she thought enough of us to call -- yet mildly concerned about what she was experiencing that was unsettling her.

Our first conversation covered a few questions, like:

• You do realize what you're asking? "Yes, I don't want to live in a nursing home!"

• When were you thinking? "Right away."

• What will you do with all of your possessions? "Oh, I've already been downsizing for years. I'm ready to be unburdened with all this stuff, and get down to the essentials."

If you looked up "Serious" in the dictionary, for sure you'd see her pictured there.

There's much more to the story, but the short of it is: our friend moved in! And, we have been providing home care to adults ever since.

Our experiences -- all the ups and downs of caring for someone in need -- completely changed our family, and our lifestyle.

Which brings us to today. Such a life-changing consideration as uprooting an elderly mom, dad, grandparent, relative, or friend usually brings stress for somebody.

Whether you're looking for a "peaceful compromise" or an "acceptable solution" -- we understand, and you’ll find we offer so much more than either of these.

Rather than go to a facility or a nursing home or a big company where you're loved one is lost in a sea of needy folks -- we offer a real life, with the love, personal attention and intimacy, activity, independence, and stimulation of a family home.

We've found that there is more "fear" in the uncertainty of just thinking about all this -- and it can really help to talk.

Does your loved one have dementia symptoms or Alzheimers? Or, is there simply a need for general supervision? We provide graduated degrees of assisted living, all the way through to coordinating hospice care.

Please feel free to telephone or email us -- even if you're at the place where you only need to talk about options and explore issues. We'd love to be a sounding board for you.

There's a loving life, here!

Signed, John and Candis
